Travel off the beaten path with this tour that takes you to the less visited Soganli valley. Here you can admire some of the most important churches in the valley: Karabas, Yilanli, Kubbeli and the Church of St. Barbara (Tahtali), without the interruption of large groups of tourists and get to know the real Cappadocia. Soganli Valley is located near Yesilhisar in the province of Kayseri, 25 miles southeast of Urgup, and 15.5 miles to the east of Derinkuyu. The valley has been converted into deep canyons due to volcanic erruptions that affected the area, and is home to some spectacular cave churches. Visit the Church of St. Barbara which dates from the 10th century and lies to the end of the valley, where you can see some of the best preserved decoration and contains many saint’s portraits. The Kubbeli (Domed) Church is known for the cylindrical domes that come into view as you cross the valley and portrays scenes such as the Prophetic Vision, Nativity and Jesus and the Samaritan Woman, amongst many. Soganli is a traditional Turkish village where people practically live as they have for centuries, and many local women hand sew linen dolls, as well as other Anatolian crafts, which make for a unique souvenir.
