Allow yourself to be entranced by this half-day tour of the vibrant city of Salvador de Bahia. With its charming old town, a vibrant musical scene and popular Carnival celebrations with strong African influence, it is considered to be the cultural capital of Brazil. We’ll visit Dique do Tororo, with its images of Afro-Brazilian Orixas, the Lower City, the Forte de Mont Serrat, the Lacerda Elevator and the Mercado Modelo craft market. The tour begins at the Dique de Tororo where you can admire the impressive sculptures of the Orixas, syncretic afro-Brazilian deities, by local artist Tati Moreno. We’ll also be able to see the outside of the impressive Fonte Nova football stadium, one of the venues for the 2014 World Cup. Next we’ll go down to the Lower City for a visit to the magnificent 18th Century Church of Nosso Senhor de Bonfim, an important pilgrimage site. We’ll continue to the Forte of Mont Serrat, one of Bahia’s oldest fortresses where you enjoy breath-taking views over the city and out to the Atlantic Ocean. From here we’ll make a short stop at the Mercado Modelo craft market where you can stock up on hand-made souvenirs, including good luck charms and musical instruments. The tour ends with a visit to the Elevador Lacerda, a beautifully restored Art Deco elevator connecting the Cidade Alta with the port and market. Do not miss the 17th Century Town hall with its impressive arches, just opposite, before returning to the hotel. Languages Portuguese and English Redeem informationVoucher type: E-VoucherE-voucher.
